Can I get an infection from using old make-up?
Why can't I just use a permanent marker to date my make-up?
Great question! While resistant to water, common permanent markers are not resistant to oil. Use oil based creams or make-up? If so, touching the marked up product afterwards will rub off the date. The Once Opened Beauty Expiration Kit solves this problem by providing attractive self-laminating labels and a beauty expiration guide to Mark-Up Your Make-Up!
Isn't an expiration date printed on packaging?
There are no regulations or requirements under current United States law that require cosmetic manufacturers to print expiration dates on the labels of cosmetic products.*
Europe mandates cosmetic manufacturers to display the Period after Opening (PaO) symbol on product and packaging. Symbol is of an
open jar with the number of months (i.e. 12M = 12 months) indicating
lifespan*... Once Opened.
Once Opened, airborne bacteria can cause certain cosmetic
ingredients to oxidize and degrade, decreasing product life and
effectiveness by allowing bacteria to grow and spread.
Cosmetics commonly at risk have been:
- improperly stored,
- exposed to high temperatures or sunlight
- opened and examined by consumers prior
to final sale
- shared with others
- opened and not dated
Always refer to product manufacturer for proper storage & product life. Information provided herein is intended to raise awareness of the effects of expired make-up.
Please - If you have an eye or skin infection, consult a physician immediately,
stop using cosmetics, and discard those you were using when infection occurred.
